In Porto's new escape room the challenge is to discover the city's history

Coladinho to Mercado do Bolhão, the new escape room in Porto is called No Way Out Escape Room Porto and was born after a bachelor party organized by a group of friends.

When Pedro Balreira was organising his friend Ivo Ferreira's bachelor party, he thought it might be fun to get the group together in an escape room. That's exactly what they did in May this year with Can You Escape, in Aveiro.

"We loved the experience," Pedro Balreira, 32, tells NiT. "We went back to Porto and did another one. That's when the conversation came up, between me and Ivo, of opening a new escape room in Porto."

The two friends from Vila Nova de Gaia decided to go ahead with the project. They went to Aveiro to talk to the owners of the escape room where they organised the bachelor party, in order to get some tips on the best way to get this idea off the ground. As they went ahead with the NoWayOut Escape Room PortoHowever, they realised that it was necessary to call in more people - not least because it would always be a job parallel to their professions.

This is how Maria Capelas, Pedro's fiancée, Salomé Moreira, Ivo's wife, and their friend Daniela Nunes got together.

"At the beginning of June we started looking for the space for No Way Out Escape Room Porto. We were in two minds whether to open in Gaia and be the first, or to open in Porto. We decided to open in Porto because we thought it would have more visibility. Besides, our story attracts tourists as it speaks about the history of the city."

Indeed it is. In the new escape room No Way Out Escape Room Porto the game takes participants on a journey back to the 19th century, after the memory of the city of Porto was mysteriously erased. They are trapped in a room of a palace in the city centre, and have 60 minutes to solve clues and understand the history that has been lost to the present day. For all this, the game is called "Invictus".

The room is in the second front of number 40 of Rua Alexandre Braga, in an old building that has been totally restored - and with a wonderful 3.5 metre high ceiling. Another curious detail about the space: it overlooks one of the sides of the Bolhão Market.

No Way Out Escape Room Porto welcomes teams with between two and six players. The first clients arrived on September 11th, and since then they have no reason to complain: "We had a good first week and a fantastic weekend. We got a lot of bookings. We spent all Sunday working - we weren't expecting it to go so quickly ourselves."

The game costs £40 for two people, £50 for three to four players and £12 per player for larger groups.
